Hamam guide
What to wear and bring to a Turkish bath
Packing for a hamam is simple: swimwear, a change of underwear and a hairbrush or comb. The peştemal wrap, towel and slippers are provided, and the lighter you travel, the easier the visit.
In short
In a Turkish bath you wear swimwear — a swimsuit, trunks or a bikini — throughout; nobody is naked. Bring a change of underwear and a hairbrush or comb; the peştemal wrap, towel and slippers are provided. Eat only a light meal beforehand, don't drink alcohol before the session, and bring as little else as you can.
What to wear
Swimwear, from start to finish. Guests wear swimwear throughout the visit and nobody is naked — through the sauna and steam room, the kese scrub, the foam wash and foam massage, and the oil massage.
You change when you arrive: the hamam has changing facilities, and you are given a peştemal wrap to put on over your swimwear, a towel and a pair of slippers. Choose swimwear you are happy to be scrubbed and washed in, because it will be wet and foamy by the end.
What to bring
The list is short:
- Swimwear or a bikini — you wear it throughout.
- A change of underwear — your swimwear will be wet for the ride back.
- A hairbrush or comb — for after the rinse.
- The amount shown in your booking summary — you pay at the hamam on the day, and nothing is charged online.
- Something for a tip, if you would like to leave one — tipping the attendants is customary but optional, and not included.
What's provided
Every booking includes a peştemal wrap, a towel and slippers, so there is no need to pack a towel for the hamam.
The rest of the programme is covered too: the round-trip hotel transfer within our service areas, the sauna, the steam room, the kese scrub, the foam wash and foam massage, an aromatic oil massage of about 20 minutes, and local insurance. Drinks, herbal teas and refreshments are not part of the booking.
What to leave at the hotel
Bring as little as possible. You will spend the visit in swimwear, in warm, wet rooms, moving between the sauna, the steam room and the marble. The hamam provides changing facilities for your personal belongings, and the less you bring, the less you have to leave there.
The simplest plan is to leave valuables, jewellery and anything you would hate to lose in your hotel, and bring only what is on the list above.
Eating, drinking and health
Eat only a light meal beforehand, and don't drink alcohol before the session.
A hamam is not recommended during pregnancy, with heart or circulatory conditions, or if you are sensitive to heat or humidity. If you have a medical condition, high or low blood pressure, a skin condition, or a recent operation or injury, speak to your doctor first and tell the hamam before your session.
Hamam etiquette in brief
- Swimwear stays on throughout; the peştemal goes over it.
- A same-gender attendant can be requested — mention it when you book. It is a request, not a guarantee.
- If anything feels uncomfortable during the kese or the massage, tell the attendant.
- Children are welcome with a parent, and the massage stages are designed for adults — see Turkish bath with children and as a couple.
- Tipping is customary but optional.
Ready to book
Once your swimwear is packed, the rest is arranged for you. Your hotel decides which of our three hamams you visit — in Antalya city, Belek or Kemer — and the transfer there and back is included. Check every hotel we collect from, or start with your hotel on the home page.
Reserving is free, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your visit, and we confirm the pickup time and the hamam's address with you before the day.
